Justine Letchman
On this episode of Worthy, I had the opportunity to speak to Justine Letchman, a South African-born English teacher living and working in Saudi Arabia with her husband and their young son.
Justine grew up in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, raised by her Mum and grandmother. As a reserved young girl, one of the few friends she made, was a classmate by the name of Renold Letchman, and at the age of 9 years old, they began their journey spanning 2 decades from classmates to 'Husband and Wife'. They married in 2014 and welcomed their son, Samuel Letchman in 2019.
In her early twenty’s, Justine began her studies at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal where she attained her Bachelor's Degree in Education and she hasn’t looked back since. She has spent the last 16 years of her life dedicated to educating young people, both locally and abroad.

The last two decades, however, have not been a 'walk in the park' for Justine. Her marriage and parenthood took the weight of some unfortunate circumstances as a young wife, with divorce on the cards and an unwell newborn. Yet due to Justine and her husband’s determination to follow through on their commitment to each other, and faith in God, they have seen both areas of difficulty blossom profoundly.
In our Interview, Justine shares her joy and insight on the teaching practice and expresses some amazing life lessons of victory regarding marriage, and motherhood.
“I think the most practical thing I can say to people, is that you have to make a decision. It’s about a decision. When we were on our marriage course, the one thing they told us that shocked me and it still shocks me, is that love, as much as it’s an emotion, it’s actually a decision. So you actually make the decision to love somebody every single day, and if you don’t make that decision every single day, then obviously, you are making a different decision.”
